COMMUNITY BENEFITS
How will the Metcalf Energy Center impact Santa Clara County's economy?
The $500 million project purchased construction materials, supplies and services from local companies. The sales tax revenue from these purchases goes to state and local governments. There will also be significant property tax revenues generated by this facility.
In addition, by providing reliable electric supply and by utilizing excess wastewater, the facility will help to maintain the economic health of Silicon Valley.
How many jobs did the project create?
At the peak of the two-year construction process, the facility created approximately 700 local union jobs and 20 permanent skilled, family-wage positions during operation.
Will the project impact future development opportunities in Coyote Valley?
Calpine worked with the City of San Jose, developers and potential tenants in the Coyote Valley campus industrial park to ensure that they were satisfied with the visual and technical design of the project. In addition, the Metcalf Energy Center will be a reliable source of energy for future business and industry in the area. This nearby source of electricity will reduce outages for all Silicon Valley business and residents.
