The Metcalf Energy Center (MEC), developed, constructed, commissioned and operated by Calpine, is the first power plant of any significant size ever built in "Silicon Valley". An unusual and elaborate architectural design screens the power plant and creates a far less industrial-looking facility. Calpine worked closely with residents, businesses and the City of San Jose to develop a unique office-type exterior, compatible with future business parks.
